By the time he died of a heart attack at the age of 73 on September 12, 1988, Mars had become the undisputed King of the Pilipino Komiks. His characters and novels seem to have a life of their own and continue to entertain the masses on the screen, in radio and TV, and in the pages of newly created komiks magazines.
