Sunshine Place welcomes Beyond Steps, the first choreographed therapy class!
To be conducted by Emily Jo ‘EJ’ Villacorta, the class goes beyond merely dancing or simply following the instructress at the dance floor.
Villacorta incorporates patterned dance choreography that focuses in one’s psychological and physical well-being.
A form of therapy, Beyond Steps enhances the individual’s need to know and learn the importance of a patterned dance which can actually heal ailing minds and bodies. The class not only boosts and strengthens ones physical state but also awakens ones state of mind.
Besides improving heart and lung function, weight management and motor skills, the class taps into one’s awareness, self-confidence, self-esteem, sentiments, thinking process, agility, thinking process and memory skills.
Villacorta, a retired psychometrician from the International School Manila, incorporates her theater experience in Beyond Steps.. She is remembered for her show-stopping Dance:10, Looks:3 from A Chorus Line, produced by Repertory Philippines as well as stellar performances in “Ain’t Misbehavin'”, “Baby,” and “Stepping Out.” She has also performed at five-star hotels in Asia.
A free trial class is scheduled on Thursday, May 9 from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. Regular class schedule starts on May 16.
