Music has proven to enliven and wake-up the mind and soul. It promotes overall health such as increased mobility and coordination, overall cognitive abilities, improved memory and recall and recovery time. Moreover, seniors benefit from music classes as these enhance the mood, emotion, and self-esteem, and decrease tension and anxiety.
One music class being offered at the Sunshine Place is playing the piano. Playing the piano helps build brain connections between the hand muscles and brain – a great way to stay mentally fit. Individuals playing the piano build neural connections, improving mood, memory and clarity. Even a small amount of musical training will have long-lasting effects on the brain.
For the young, playing the piano improves their discipline, patience and improves their academic skills. Learning the musical patterns can help a child develop mnemonic methods, improving their memory skills. Playing the piano also develops coordination and motor skills, i.e. movement of hands, arms and feet, and even develops ambidexterity. Lastly, both young and adult learn to be social and increase self-confidence.
The piano classes are open to all ages and skill level, including seniors who may have taken a hiatus and want to refresh their piano skills or youngsters who want to learn piano basics guided by a teacher online.
All classes are done via Zoom by appointment every Wednesday – Thursday – Friday – Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Classes will be conducted by Cloi Sugano, who has been teaching music at Sunshine Place for two years now. Teacher Cloi’s one-on-one online lessons at Sunshine Place are designed to meet the individual needs of each student in order for them to discover their own voice and passion for playing music in a fun and effective way.
