PHAP congratulates its former president for receiving UP Distinguished Alumni Award

Dr. Beaver Tamesis is one of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Awardee of the University
of the Philippines through the UP Alumni Association.

He received the recognition for his work in Public Health Promotion (Medicine).

Dr. Tamesis graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 1979 and is currently the
President and CEO of Asian Hospital and Medical Center.

He also served as president of the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP) for seven consecutive years.

PHAP, represents the research-based medicines and vaccines providers in the Philippines, and have been in the forefront of the COVID-19 response.

“PHAP congratulates Dr. Tamesis for receiving this recognition from his alma mater. During his term as PHAP President, Dr. Tamesis contributed to the understanding of science, medicine development and complex public health issues especially following the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic. He provided medically-verified insights aligned with the messages and objectives of the government and public health experts,” said PHAP Executive Director Teodoro Padilla as he reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to public health promotion in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and the medical community.

During his stint at PHAP, Dr. Tamesis also advocated for ethics and integrity in the medical community.

He pursued the implementation of the PHAP Code of Practice which is fully consistent with the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Mexico City Principles (MCP) and had overseen the crafting of the Philippine Consensus Framework for Ethical Collaboration Between Patients’ Organizations, Healthcare Professionals, and the Pharmaceutical Industry.

The UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awards are conferred on alumni who have demonstrated, in their chosen field of endeavor, exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions that bring about substantial benefits to society and distinct honor to the University.

Recognition is given to achievements and contributions that impact the community in which the alumni are or have been active, whether this is at the local, national or international level.
