Alberta – a province in Canada and home to the Rocky Mountains, vast national parks, and stunning landscapes is a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors every year from all over the world.

Its popularity is generating significant revenue for the province and providing unparalleled employment opportunities.

With a diverse food scene, a wide array of choices for accommodations, and adequate venues for events and conferences, Alberta’s hospitality industry is an important part of the province’s economy and is positioned to thrive in the future.

Recognizing this development, Canada Advantage, a full-service education, employment, and immigration company, and Olds College, an Alberta public post-secondary institution located in Olds, Alberta are taking a bold step to enhance the learning experience of international students with a launch of a one year Global Hospitality and Tourism Program focused on hospitality internship.

This program is designed to provide international students with an opportunity to learn in a work-integrated setting while studying.

Aptly called Hospitality Internship Program (HIP), it allows students to gain practical work experience in the hotel industry in Alberta, while simultaneously completing their academic course.

This provides the students the chance to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, enabling them to develop a better understanding of the industry and its workings.

The work-integrated learning aspect of the program will be completed by placing students with Alberta-based hotels.

In doing so, students will be exposed to different roles, including front desk operations, housekeeping, food, and beverage service, and management, to name a few.

By working on these roles, students will be able to develop a deeper understanding of the hotel industry and the different duties and responsibilities within it.

One of the key benefits of this program is that students not only gain practical know-how but also develop their social skills and cultural awareness through interaction with their Canadian colleagues and guests, which is an important consideration for a possible work opportunity beyond graduation from the program.

Currently, HIP is taking in candidates for the September intake, and interested parties need to submit their application before 15 Apr. 2023.
