Manila Hearing Aid (MHA), the country’s pioneer in hearing care reopened its legacy clinic at Quezon Avenue on July 1. With a history of pioneering achievements, MHA strengthens its commitment to bringing heartfelt hearing care to Filipinos.
“Our Quezon Avenue clinic is the first-ever Manila Hearing Aid clinic where it all started, where the late Dr. Abaño Jr. took the first step to bringing comprehensive hearing care solutions to the country—and this dream is what we’ve been continuously working on,” Dr. Liza Abaño-Robles, the MHA’s general manager, stated.
The Quezon Avenue clinic, located at 14 Integrated Professional Offices Building, Barangay Doña Estafa, Quezon City, has been the flagship clinic of Manila Hearing Aid for nearly 47 years.
“We’ve been in the industry for almost 47 years and this clinic has served and changed the lives of thousands of individuals who need complete hearing care services ever since. So, we wanted to preserve its legacy through this renovation and as we move forward,” she added.
MHA began the renovation on March 11 of this year with the goal to uphold a high standard of premium quality of hearing care solutions to its patients. The clinic offered variety of services recommended by ENT doctors; from basic hearing screening and hearing aid fitting for all ages, to expert consultations conducted by trusted hearing care specialists.
It is also renowned for its pediatric hearing testing and evaluation services, including Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), Auditory Steady State Response (ASSR), and Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) testing for infants and toddlers.
HEARTFELT HEARING CARE
Established in 1976 by the Father of Hearing Care in the Philippines Dr. Jose F. Abaño, Jr., MHA led the way in hearing care solutions in the country.
Dr. Abaño was a resident ENT doctor in a prominent hospital in New York with the largest and now, oldest hearing and speech facility with the most advanced hearing diagnostic tests during that time.
His international practice made him see the gap between the local and the global hearing healthcare setting—where renowned hospitals in Manila with ENT department were limited to offering surgical diagnostic treatments to Filipino patients with hearing loss.
Fueled by his dedication to broaden all possible hearing health management options for hearing loss, as soon as he came back, he asked himself, “Where can I send my patients?”
The answer led to the establishment of Manila Hearing Aid, which began with its clinic on Quezon Avenue. It marked the start of its trailblazing legacy in hearing care in the country.
Today, his children carry on his passion and continue to uphold the principles of heartfelt hearing care instilled by their father.
PIONEERING ACHIEVEMENTS
MHA was devoted to providing specialized hearing care for children, demonstrated by their first hearing aid center in 1977.
In 1978, MHA also became the pioneer in digitizing its testing and hearing aid fitting system which was recognized and accredited by the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology at that time.
Throughout the years, MHA continued to introduce revolutionary advancements in the local hearing care industry.
In 1996, MHA was the first to introduce the Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Test and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Test in the Philippines, further enhancing their hearing diagnostic capabilities.
In 1997, MHA once again led the way by introducing the world’s first All-Digital hearing aid, the Oticon DigiFocus. This technology demonstrated MHA’s commitment to bringing more advanced hearing aid technologies to the Philippines.
In 2015, Dr. Liza Abaño-Robles became the first Filipino audiologist certified by the American Board of Audiology. To this day, Dr. Abaño-Robles continues to contribute to the advancement of hearing care in the country by leading MHA as its general manager.
In 2022, MHA officially launched Pediatric Hearing Care by MHA program in their Bonifacio Global City clinic — specialized for young patients from infants to teenagers who are hard of hearing.
Continuing its legacy, MHA introduced two groundbreaking hearing aid technologies this year.
In February, Phonak Audéo Lumity was introduced to the local market—the world’s first waterproof rechargeable hearing aids fit for every lifestyle and season and was sold out within its first two weeks.
A few months later, Oticon Real™ has been officially available in the Philippines – a premium hearing aid powered by the latest RealSound Technology™, the world’s first hearing aid with advanced features for seamless balance and contrast between speech and sudden presence of soft and loud sounds, as well as wind and handling noise.
The reopening of the Quezon Avenue clinic symbolizes a new chapter in continuing the pioneering legacy of hearing care in the Philippines. Manila Hearing Aid remains dedicated to providing premium quality solutions and personalized care that positively impacts the lives of individuals who are hard of hearing.
