TAG Resort Coron, in a ceremony held on January 22, 2025 at the Philippine Navy Headquarters, awarded a Certificate of Recognition to the Philippine Navy for their swift response during a medical emergency at the resort in December 2024.

The timely and coordinated efforts of the Navy underscored their commitment to public service beyond their core mandate of national defense.
Stephen Rey Tagud, Managing Director of TAG Resort Coron, presented the Certificate of Recognition to Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Q. Ezpeleta, Flag Officer in Command, along with Rear Admiral Alan M. Javier, Rear Admiral Juario C. Marayag, Commodore Ireneo D. Battung, and the team involved in the operation. The event was also graced by TAG Resort Coron’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sulficio O. Tagud, Jr., and Capt. Ross Sarmiento, the resort’s Head of Security.
“This partnership demonstrates the immense value of collaboration between public institutions and private organizations,” said Sulficio O. Tagud, Jr. “Together, we can ensure the safety and well-being of the local community of Coron and its visitors.”
The recognition ceremony also highlighted the pressing need for improved healthcare infrastructure in Coron. As a renowned international destination, the municipality currently faces significant challenges in responding to medical emergencies due to the lack of advanced medical facilities. TAG Resort Coron called for dialogues and collaborative efforts to address these gaps, emphasizing that enhanced healthcare infrastructure is essential for sustainable tourism and the long-term development of Coron,Palawan.
“As Coron continues to attract international travelers, addressing gaps in emergency medical infrastructure is critical. It ensures that we are ready to respond to challenges, and will reinforce Coron as a reliable and resilient destination,” Stephen Tagud said.
The Philippine Navy on the other hand is grateful for the recognition. “The Philippine Navy remains ready to serve wherever and whenever needed,” says Vice Admiral Ezpeleta.
This collaboration between TAG Resort Coron and the Philippine Navy reflects a shared commitment to community welfare and sustainable progress for Coron, Palawan.
2024 data from the Provincial Tourism Promotions and Development Office (PTPDO) shows that Coron is the third most visited destination in Palawan, next to Puerto Princesa and El Nido.
