PHLPost Honors Pope Francis with Special Commemorative Stamp Release

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has released a special commemorative stamp honoring His Holiness Pope Francis. This new release celebrates the Pope’s enduring legacy of faith, compassion, and service to humanity.

The stamp is presented in a se-tenant format, which consists of a connected pair, each bearing a unique design. One highlights Pope Francis’s spiritual humility, while the other reflects his strong advocacy for peace, social justice, and environmental stewardship. The format symbolizes the dual aspects of his papal mission and influence across both religious and global humanitarian efforts.

A total of 20,000 copies of the commemorative stamp have been printed for this release. Complementing these are 1,000 pieces of the Official First Day Cover (FDC), which includes the newly issued stamps and a cancellation postmark stamped with the official release date. These limited-edition items are especially prized by collectors and enthusiasts.

Postmaster General and CEO Luis D. Carlos said, “Through this stamp, we are sending a message of unity, love, and faith that transcends borders. It is our humble way of honoring a global religious figure who has touched countless lives, including millions of Filipinos.”

PHLPost has previously issued several stamps in honor of Pope Francis, including a commemorative stamp in 2015 during his historic apostolic visit to the Philippines, which included a memorable and emotional stop in Tacloban City, where he expressed solidarity with survivors of Typhoon Yolanda. In 2014, PHLPost also released a stamp marking the first anniversary of his papacy, celebrating his early messages of mercy and inclusion that captivated the world.

PHLPost has long maintained a philatelic tradition of commemorating significant individuals and historic milestones. Over the years, stamps have marked events such as papal visits, canonizations, and other landmark moments in Catholic and global history. The Pope Francis stamp joins this distinguished collection.

Officials at PHLPost emphasized that the release aligns with their goal of using philately as a tool for education, heritage preservation, and cultural expression. Stamps such as these serve as both a tribute and a reminder of shared values and aspirations, connecting Filipinos to a broader global narrative.

The commemorative stamps and First Day Covers are now available for purchase at the Manila Central Post Office. PHLPost invites the public and collectors alike to acquire these special editions, which honor a living symbol of humility, faith, and service to others.

Pope Francis, elected on March 13, 2013, served as the 266th leader of the Roman Catholic Church and head of state of the Vatican City until his death on April 21, 2025. His papacy was marked by humility, social justice, and global outreach.
