MOVE-Laguna Chapter strengthens men’s commitment to end violence against women

STA. CRUZ, Laguna – The Laguna Chapter of Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) conducted its General Assembly at the Cultural Center, Capitol Compound, Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 10 June 2025, aimed to promote awareness and action among men in eliminating violence against women (VAW) and strengthening gender advocacy through male engagement.

The event was attended by Provincial Government of Laguna male employees, key government leaders, and representatives from Gender and Development (GAD) offices of various local government units in the province.

The activity featured informative sessions on gender sensitivity, men’s mental health, and violence prevention strategies, all aligned with MOVE’s mission of promoting respectful and equal treatment of women in all spheres of life.

MOVE was established following the campaign of the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW), now known as the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), which in 2002–2003 focused on raising awareness about violence against women. This effort was strengthened by the passage of two landmark laws: Republic Act 9208 – Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, and Republic Act 9262 – Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act.

In the years that followed, national efforts centered on promoting these laws, improving their implementation, and forming a strong network of male advocates against VAW, which gave rise to the MOVE initiative.

MOVE continues to serve as a vital platform for men to transform awareness into action—proving that real progress in gender equality requires the active participation of both women and men.
