The Unexpected Joy of Dining at Sogo Food Restaurant

As someone who’s always on the hunt for great food in unexpected places, I recently stumbled upon a surprisingly delightful discovery: Sogo Food Restaurant yes, the new in-house dining concept by none other than Hotel Sogo.

For over 30 years, Hotel Sogo has been a well-known name in the Philippine hospitality scene, famous for its clean, convenient, and accessible accommodations. But this time, it’s not the rooms that caught my attention it’s what’s being served on the table.

After three decades in the industry, Sogo has launched its first-ever restaurant, available in selected branches: Malate, Roxas, Buendia, and Santolan. And let me tell you it’s more than just a typical hotel cafe. Sogo Food Restaurant is a celebration of Filipino comfort food, served fast, fresh, and packed with flavor.

A Menu That Feels Like Home

What surprised me most about Sogo Food Restaurant is the sheer variety on the menu. Whether you’re dropping by for a quick bite or enjoying a full meal during your stay, there’s a wide variety of dishes to enjoy.

The dim sum section is a great place to start: their Pork Siomai, Chicken Siomai, and Shark’s Fin Siomai are generously portioned and served hot perfect with their house chili-garlic sauce. I also tried the Mini Siopao Asado and Jumbo Siopao, both soft, flavorful, and satisfyingly filling.

And yes, they’ve got Chicken Feet too—richly seasoned and tender enough to fall off the bone. It’s the kind of bold, no-frills snack that hits the spot, especially when paired with a cold beer.

But the real highlight? Their Sisig series.

From the sizzling Pork Sisig to the lighter yet equally savory Bangus Sisig, every plate packs a punch. Vegetarians and veggie-lovers aren’t left out either there’s a Tofu Sisig that’s crispy on the outside and bursting with flavor inside. It’s one of my personal favorites from the menu, hands down.

Something for the Plant-Powered Palate

I was also pleased to see that the restaurant offers options for health-conscious diners. For those craving something hearty yet nutritious, dishes like Lumpiang Ubod, Chopseuy, and Pinakbet provide satisfying choices without the guilt.

These vegetable-forward dishes are not just filler items they’re vibrant, generously served, and seasoned with care. The Chopseuy in particular stood out, loaded with crisp-tender veggies in a savory sauce that tastes like home cooking at its best.

Breakfast, Bento, and Everything in Between

If you’re an all-day breakfast kind of eater (aren’t we all?), you’ll love the Filipino breakfast selections served from sun-up to sundown. Think Tapsilog, Tocilog, and all the silog combos you can imagine paired with garlic rice and a sunny-side-up egg.

There are also bento meals for those looking for a quick yet complete meal option. And if you’re in the mood for something warm and comforting, the soup and noodle offerings will do just the trick.

More Than a Hotel Stay—It’s a Food Experience

What sets Sogo Food Restaurant apart isn’t just the food it’s the idea that you can enjoy honest-to-goodness, hearty Filipino meals in a place that’s traditionally been known just for stays. It’s casual, convenient, and surprisingly satisfying without burning a hole in your wallet.

So whether you’re a checked-in guest, a night owl looking for comfort food at 2AM, or simply someone curious to try something new, Sogo Food Restaurant is worth a visit.

You’ll walk in expecting the usual and walk out thinking, “Wow, that was actually really good.”

Sogo Food Restaurant is now open in Hotel Sogo Malate, Roxas Blvd, Buendia, and Santolan. Come for the stay, stay for the food.
