From Scholar to HR Leader: How PCPPI’s Investment in People Transformed One HR Manager’s Career

For many Filipino families, the dream of higher education remains a struggle amid rising tuition costs and financial insecurity. Scholarships often serve as lifelines—offering not just access to a college degree, but a pathway toward long-term stability and professional growth.

That’s exactly how Jackilyn “Jacky” Bongo, now the Senior Manager for HR Operations at Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI)’s Cagayan de Oro Business Unit, began her journey. PCPPI is the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country.

A former PCPPI college scholar, Jacky is now celebrating her 23rd year with the company—a full-circle story of potential realized and purpose paid forward.

“I wanted to pursue my dream of earning a degree in BS Mathematics, but I was worried about our family’s income,” Jacky recalled. “Becoming a PCPPI scholar lifted that burden. It allowed me to focus on my studies and build a strong foundation.”

Jacky joined PCPPI in 2002 as an administrative assistant—her first job after graduation. Since then, she has risen through the ranks, earning promotions in credit and settlement-related functions before being appointed HR Business Partner Manager in 2023. Along the way, she credits her mentors and former supervisors for equipping her with tools that helped her grow into her current leadership role.

“Shifting from being an individual contributor to becoming a people manager wasn’t easy,” she said. “But PCPPI supported me with training in coaching, public speaking, and talent development. That support made all the difference.”

Today, Jacky pays it forward by mentoring others—several of whom have since earned promotions themselves. “It’s not just about doing your tasks. It’s about helping others thrive. That’s the kind of culture we promote here.”

She was also honored as a Gold Crowd Awardee, a company-wide recognition given to employees who exemplify the core values of passion, excellence, professionalism, service, and integrity. Atty. Carina Bayon, PCPPI’s Chief Environmental, Social & Governance Officer, emphasized how stories like Bongo’s reflect the company’s long-term vision.

“Jacky’s journey is a testament to what’s possible when we invest in people early and continue to nurture that potential over time,” Atty. Carina Bayon said. “Her story reflects our commitment to building not just careers, but communities of growth, leadership, and shared success.”

As PCPPI celebrates its corporate anniversary this July, Jacky’s story highlights how education, empowerment, and mentorship remain central to its employee development philosophy.

“For young professionals starting out, be a sponge,” she advised. “Absorb new skills and knowledge as much as you can, build good working relationships, network with your colleagues, stay curious, and strive for excellence. The rewards and recognition will come.”
