Manila, Philippines — 11 September 2025 — Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced the recent signing of a Deed of Accession and Amendment formalizing the replacement of Solar Philippines Power Project Holdings, Inc. (SPPPHI) by MGEN unit SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) in the 63.3 MWp Calatagan Solar Farm in Calatagan, Batangas, further reinforcing their long-standing partnership in the Philippine energy sector.
Under the agreement, the companies affirmed their shared commitment to strengthen their strategic partnership as joint shareholders in one of the largest solar farms in Batangas. It also reflects their broader goal of accelerating the country’s renewable energy transition and pursuing opportunities in emerging technologies.
The strengthened partnership builds on earlier milestones between KEPCO and the One Meralco Group, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding in February
2025 covering potential collaboration in nuclear energy, renewable energy, smart grids, microgrids, energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicles, advanced metering infrastructure, smart substations, and distribution automation. These initiatives highlight both groups’ shared vision of delivering sustainable, innovative, and reliable energy solutions for the Philippines.
Looking ahead, KEPCO and MGEN intend to expand their collaboration beyond solar into other renewable energy projects such as wind and ESS, further diversifying the Philippines’ energy portfolio.
KEPCO Philippines Holdings, Inc. President & CEO Mr. Jeon Yongsu said: “This agreement is a testament to the trust and cooperation that KEPCO and MGEN have built over the years. Together, we are creating a stronger foundation to accelerate renewable energy development in the Philippines and set a benchmark for strategic energy partnerships across Asia.”
MGEN President & CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio added: “Our strengthened partnership with KEPCO underscores MGEN’s commitment to advancing clean energy and supporting the country’s sustainability goals. By working hand in hand, we aim to not only ensure the continued success of the Calatagan Solar Farm but also unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth in the Philippine energy sector.”
