Through the Lens of Ginhawa: Lakad-Lente Comes to Sto. Tomas, Pampanga

Sto. Tomas, Pampanga – On Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, in partnership with the DTI–Design Center of the Philippines and with support from the Concerned Artists of the Philippines – Bicol Chapter (CAP-Bicol), Rhymes of PEG, and Echam Studios, will lead Lakad-Lente: Stories of Ginhawa Through Photography and Design at the Infant Jesus Golden Achievers Learning Center Inc., 45 L. Gomez Subd., San Matias, Sto. Tomas, Pampanga.

A partner event of Design Week Philippines 2025, Lakad-Lente will bring together youth, artists, students, and community members for an afternoon of creativity and collaboration. The program features a creative talk, a hands-on photography and design workshop, and a guided photowalk. It highlights ginhawa (well-being) as both everyday experience and social aspiration, encouraging participants to discover it in moments of joy, rest, play, and resilience amid community challenges.

Design Week Philippines, an initiative of the Design Center of the Philippines, is a nationwide festival celebrated every month of October. It transforms cities, municipalities, and creative spaces into vibrant hubs of innovation and design-driven activities. Anchored on the belief that design is not only for aesthetics but also for improving lives, the celebration bridges creative industries with local communities. Each edition includes exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and community-based events across the country, demonstrating how design fosters sustainable development, economic opportunities, and cultural pride.

This year’s theme emphasizes design’s role in advancing ginhawa and collective well-being. By extending creative platforms to different regions, Lakad-Lente is part of this movement, showing how art and design can nurture meaningful connections in communities beyond traditional creative centers.

The photowalk will encourage participants to capture stories of ginhawa and the program will close with a reflection session where participants share their images and respond to the question: “What story of ginhawa did you capture, and what did it reveal about your community?”

“This initiative is both reflection and action. Through Lakad-Lente, we hope to inspire participants to see art as a way of capturing ginhawa and sharing it as a story of our collective life,” said Resmundo Demdam, Project Lead of the event.

“Art is always for the people. In this workshop, we want to emphasize that photography and design can be powerful tools for truth-telling and community building,” added Geri Matthew ‘Choi’ Carretero, co-founder of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective.

“Creativity is rhythm—it comes from our lives, our joys, and even our struggles. Lakad-Lente is an opportunity for participants to discover and express their own rhythm through images. Art also has the power to travel and reach different places. While many of our members are from Bicol, our collective has expanded its community outreach even as far as Pampanga,” shared Allan Abrigo of CAP Bicol.

“Sto. Tomas is rich in culture and everyday stories. I am excited to guide participants in exploring how design and photography can highlight the unique character of our community,” said Jessa Erandio, joined by Ruth Jocutan, both representing Rhymes of PEG.

“Lakad-Lente is a journey of seeing the familiar with fresh eyes. It reminds us that ginhawa can be found in small moments, captured and shared through our lenses,” noted Raymond Demdam of Echam Studios.

The event is free of charge, but slots are limited and subject to review. Only confirmed participants will be notified. To register, please visit: tinyurl.com/DesignWeekPampanga2025 .
