MANILA, Philippines – The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI), in partnership with key local stakeholder – the Philippine Water Works Association (PWWA), organized the German-Philippine Conference on Water Technology at the Makati Diamond Residences. The event gathered Philippine and German stakeholders to explore opportunities for cooperation in sustainable water solutions, industrial applications, and infrastructure development.
“By combining German innovation with Philippine market potential, we can unlock new pathways for cleaner, smarter, and more resilient water systems,” said Mr. Christopher Zimmer, GPCCI Executive Director. “We are proud to provide a platform where German innovation and Philippine water technology priorities can meet. We arranged over 80 B2B meetings to initiate concrete cooperation.”
The conference was part of a broader German business mission on water technology, with ten German firms visiting the Philippines from 24–27 November 2025 under the Foreign Market Entry Programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). The program supports SMEs in market exploration by facilitating knowledge exchange, targeted business matchmaking, and high-level discussions with local partners.
The event also featured a presentation from the German Water Partnership (GWP) through Lucie König, who underscored the importance of innovative, efficient, and climate-resilient water technologies in addressing global and local water challenges.
“Germany has more than 150 years of experience in water supply and wastewater treatment, operating a decentralized and highly specialized system tailored to local conditions” said Ms. Lucile König, Advisor for International Programs of GWP “German Water Partnership stands ready to support deeper cooperation in South and Southeast Asia, which includes the Philippines. We welcome partners who wish to explore German solutions and develop joint projects.”
The event was keynoted by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), which presented the current state of the Metro Manila Water and Sewage Situation.
“Metro Manila’s water and wastewater ecosystem now serves more than 17 million people—an ever-growing population with rapidly increasing demand.” said Mr. Patrick Lester Ty, Chief Regulator at MWSS. “German engineering has long set global benchmarks for performance, efficiency, and durability—qualities Metro Manila urgently needs as it builds the next wave of water and wastewater infrastructure.”
Another keynote speech was delivered by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) which presented Philippine Water Treatment and Infrastructure Potential.
“The Philippines needs strengthened and expanded infrastructure so that all communities can enjoy reliable and safe water services.” said Atty. Lindey Dela Cruz Santillan, Chairman of LWUA. “German technology can help us build systems that are resilient, resource-efficient, and suited to the realities of both the Philippines and Germany.”
Participating German companies included ANDRITZ Separation GmbH, a global provider of solid–liquid separation technologies and digitalization solutions used in environmental, chemical, mining, and food industries; ATEC GmbH, a specialist in precision-engineered sluice gates, penstocks, valves, and flood protection systems; and AuCom Applied Motor Controls GmbH, known internationally for its high-quality soft starters and variable frequency drives for industrial motor control.
Also present was Herrenknecht AG, the world leader in mechanized tunnelling systems utilized in Philippine water and sewer network construction; IMPREG GmbH, a pioneer in UV-CIPP liner technology for trenchless rehabilitation of stormwater and sewer pipes; and Muhr GmbH, a supplier of hydropower and water management equipment including trash rack cleaners, intake screens, and fish-friendly water intake systems. Completing the delegation were Otto Graf GmbH, a leading provider of stormwater management, wastewater treatment, and rainwater harvesting systems; Rädlinger Primus Line GmbH, developer of trenchless solutions for rehabilitating pressurized pipelines through its robust Primus Line® technology; Reline Europe GmbH, an expert in UV-cured glass-fiber lining systems and robotic equipment for trenchless pipe rehabilitation; and Tholander Environmental Engineering, a manufacturer of customized industrial exhaust air purification systems used across multiple sectors worldwide.
“German companies bring decades of engineering excellence and innovative solutions, while the Philippines offers a dynamic market, unique challenges, and a commitment to sustainable development,” said Marie Antoniette Mariano, President of GPCCI. “This mission reflects Germany’s commitment to building lasting partnerships in sectors with real impact.”
