Taiwan strengthens ties with the Philippines at Phil Travel Expo

via Graphic Plus| MANILA, Philippines — Taiwan reinforced its commitment to the Philippine market at the opening of the Philippine Travel Expo, highlighting visa-free access, safe 24/7 tourism, and growing people-to-people exchanges as key drivers of deeper travel and cultural connections between the two destinations.

Speaking at the event, Ting-Sheng Lee, Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), emphasized the importance of the Taiwan–Philippines Reciprocal Visa Exemption in strengthening bilateral relations. According to Lee, the policy has significantly lowered barriers to travel, enabling more Filipinos to visit Taiwan for leisure, education, family visits, and cultural exchange.

“The visa exemption has made travel easier and more accessible, allowing people from both sides to build stronger personal connections and a deeper appreciation of each other’s cultures,” Lee said. “This forms a strong foundation for long-term cooperation between Taiwan and the Philippines.”

From TECO’s perspective, visa-free entry has driven steady growth in tourism, business travel, and cultural engagement. Filipino entrepreneurs and professionals now find it easier to attend trade events, exhibitions, and meetings in Taiwan, while cultural exchanges—from academic programs to creative collaborations—have become more active and inclusive.

Ease Huang, Deputy Director-General of the Taiwan Tourism Administration, highlighted Taiwan’s positioning as a 24/7 tourism destination and one of the safest places in Asia to explore at night—an increasingly important message for Filipino travelers.

“Safety, flexibility, and memorable experiences matter to Filipino visitors,” Huang said. “Taiwan’s well-regulated night markets, reliable public transport, and walkable, well-lit cities allow travelers to enjoy nightlife, food, and cultural activities with confidence

Taiwan consistently ranks among the safest destinations globally, with low crime rates and a strong culture of public order. The Taiwan Tourism Administration continues to communicate this advantage through media partnerships and digital campaigns that feature authentic traveler experiences.

Meanwhile, Cindy Chen, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Information Center Manila (TTIC), shared that interest from the Philippine market has grown steadily in recent years, particularly among young travelers, families, and first-time international tourists.

“Filipinos are drawn to Taiwan’s accessibility, food culture, safety, and variety of experiences,” Chen said. “TTIC plays a key role in making travel planning easy—by providing itineraries, travel information, and partnerships with airlines, tour operators, and media.”

Chen added that today’s opening serves as a cultural bridge, bringing Taiwan’s lifestyle, creativity, and destinations closer to Filipino audiences. With visa-free access, safe nighttime tourism, and strong local partnerships, Taiwan continues to position itself as one of the most attractive and welcoming destinations for Filipino travelers seeking meaningful, convenient, and memorable journeys.
