PANEL REACTOR speech by Tingog Party-List Rep. Jude Acidre

It’s an honor for me to share a few thoughts on the profound impact of collaboration and unity in driving innovation, shaping the future of clinical trials, and advancing medical research for the betterment of our country.

Personally, I am deeply invested in the well-being of our citizens. And I am compelled to challenge each and every one of us to leverage our collective expertise and resources to improve our healthcare system. And more importantly, to serve the people we are all committed to represent.

Our nation’s healthcare system is at a critical juncture—emerging from a pandemic, facing myriad of challenges that demand innovative solutions and bold, collaborative action. From addressing disparities in access to care and health outcomes to navigating the complexities of emerging medical technologies, the need for sustained collaboration has never been more pressing.

I challenge each one of us to harness the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change in our healthcare system. I urge that we all come together, transcending traditional boundaries and affiliations, to tackle the complex issues that confront us by pooling our collective wisdom, expertise, and resources.

We can catalyze transformative advancements that will shape the future of healthcare delivery and medical research. I believe that the charge that is upon the pharmaceutical industry, upon PHAP, is not merely to advance scientific knowledge or to develop groundbreaking technologies in isolation. It is to bridge the gap between innovation and impact, ensuring that the fruits of our labor are accessible to all those who stand to benefit.

This requires a concerted effort to align our research endeavors with the real world needs of patients, patient care providers and communities, and to forge partnerships that extend beyond the confines of laboratories and medical institutions.

Clinical trials, the bedrock of evidence-based medicines, are pivotal in translating scientific discoveries into tangible benefits for patients. Through rigorous, well-designed trials, we gain critical insights about the safety and efficacy of your treatments, diagnostic tools, and preventive interventions.

However, the success of clinical trials is intrinsically tied to the strength of collaborative partnerships that underpin their design, implementation, and interpretation.

By fostering collaboration among researchers, healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies, as well as regulatory agencies and patient advocacy groups, we can surmount the challenges that often impede the progress of clinical trials.

Through this partnership, we can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of trial recruitment, optimize, study protocols, and ensure the trials are conducted with the highest standards of scientific rigor, and ethical integrity.

As we aspire to build a healthier and more resilient nation, it is incumbent upon us to harness the power of collaboration to drive innovation in clinical trials and research.

This requires a concerted effort to break down silos, facilitate knowledge exchange and promote open dialogue among all relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, the impact of collaborations extends beyond the confines of individual trials, shaping the broader landscape of medical research and innovation.

By sharing data, best practices and insights from clinical trials, we can accelerate the pace of discovery, avoid unnecessary duplication of efforts, and foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement.

On our end, the Tingog Party-list will shepherd two crucial legislative measures, the drafts of which have been prepared in collaboration with PHAP and we’re very thankful for the help that we received from you.

These are: the Pharmaceutical Innovation Act, which aims to streamline and track the development of medicines and clinical trials; and the Equitable Access to Innovative, Quality, and Safe Medicines Act.

Hopefully with the support of the Speaker and of course my fellow representative from Tingog, Rep. Yedda Romualdez, who happens to be a nurse, we will be able to see the passage of these bills in the House of Representatives and, with your help, also in the Senate.

Together, let us leverage our collective talents to shape a healthier system that is compassionate, inclusive and responsive to the evolving needs of our nation.

The work ahead of us is substantial, but the potential for impact is immeasurable. On behalf of our House Speaker Martin Romualdez and my colleague Representative Yedda Romualdez from the Tingog Party List, we sincerely express our gratitude for your unwavering commitment to advancing the frontiers of medical research and innovation. Let us all stand together in a pursuit of a healthier, more equitable future for all.
