Citi Philippines celebrates 20 years of volunteerism with more than 2,000 volunteers for Global Community Day

Citi Philippines celebrated the 20year anniversary of Global Community Day with more than 2,000 volunteers across 15 activities throughout the month of June. The activities were organized together with seven community organizations, including World Vision Philippines, ChildHope Philippines, the Philippine Business for Social Progress, GMA Kapuso Foundation, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), CARA Welfare Philippines and Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation.

Global Community Day (GCD) began in 2006 with the recognition that Citi has a unique opportunity to harness the drive and dedication of employees to give back to their local communities in more than 80 countries and territories, as of this year. Over the past two decades, GCD has become an annual tradition, and volunteerism has reinforced Citi’s strong culture of service, helping teams build deeper relationships with local communities and with each other.

Citi employees, their friends and family shared their time and talent to help various communities in the Philippines.

Citi volunteers repainted classrooms and cleaned school premises at Longos Elementary School in Malabon, benefitting 1,300 students. Classrooms were also cleaned and readied for the incoming school year at CAA School at Las Pinas City to benefit over 2,200 students.

100 sacks of garbage were collected at a coastal clean-up at Baseco to benefit 30,000 households. Another coastal cleanup was held at Baseco where 99 kilos of recyclables were collected.

Citi volunteers spent their Saturdays with homeless youth in Pandacan, Manila, to make and create art with 120 children, paint t-shirts and canvas bags with 100 children and play traditional Filipino games like tumbang preso and sipa with 150 children. Some Citi employees also volunteered to mentor 65 teachers on the basics of Microsoft Excel through a virtual class.

Volunteers prepared food, cooked and packed 500 meals at the SOS Rescue Kitchen for 500 residents. Likewise, a feeding program, storytelling sessions and art workshops were held at two Gawad Kalinga villages in Caloocan for the benefit of 300 children.

1,800 bags with school supplies were packed at the GMA Kapuso Foundation warehouse at Quezon City. 800+ hygiene kits were also packed and donated to GMA Kapuso Foundation by Citi volunteers. Meanwhile, ChildHope Philippines received 51 boxes of hygiene kits, snack packs, and school supplies.

25 boxes of pet food and care items, and cleaning and office supplies were donated to support rescued animals at PAWS. Lastly, 9 sacks of pet food and 17 boxes of pet food and care items were donated for the rescued animals of CARA Welfare Philippines.

Citi Philippines CEO and Banking Head Paul Favila is proud of the high engagement of volunteers in the Philippines, adding “I wish to say ‘Thank you’ to our Citi volunteers for giving up their free time and to those who donated to our community partners. This annual tradition shows our dedication to give back to the communities where we live and work and reaffirms our commitment going forward.”
