Via GRAPHIC PLUS — Jane Fraser, chair and CEO of Citigroup, topped Fortune’s 2025 Most Powerful Women in Business list following Citi’s strong first-quarter performance under her leadership.
The recognition comes on the heels of Citi’s recent Investor Day at its New York headquarters, where Fraser and leaders from the bank’s five business units outlined strategies aimed at delivering stronger, more sustainable returns. The event also featured the announcement of new near- and medium-term Return on Tangible Common Equity (ROTCE) targets.
Since becoming CEO in 2021, Fraser has spearheaded significant transformation efforts across Citi. Fortune highlighted the bank’s growth in market value during her tenure, as well as progress in streamlining operations, strengthening governance, improving profitability, and positioning the institution for long-term growth.
On April 14, Citi reported first-quarter revenues of $24.6 billion, up 14% year-on-year, while net income rose 42% to $5.8 billion. The results reflected continued momentum across the bank’s businesses and underscored the effectiveness of its ongoing transformation strategy.
Now in its 29th year, Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business list recognizes female executives shaping the global business landscape and driving meaningful impact across industries.
Alongside Fraser, this year’s list features leaders from 94 companies worldwide, including 50 women from Fortune Global 500 firms, 39 from Fortune 500 companies, 18 from Fortune 500 Europe companies, five from Fortune 500 China companies, and two from Fortune Southeast Asia 500 companies. Collectively, they oversee 11.8 million employees, represent $7.3 trillion in annual revenue, hold 180 board seats, and span 20 countries and territories.
