Honey

Before the second episode of the Philippines Graphic Literary Workshop (PGLW) concluded on March 21, we knew that we had one more thing that we can offer our bright young fellows: a starting platform for their creative endeavors. Here, we present one of their final outputs from the workshop. We also asked them to provide an artwork that they think best represents their stories. Read on.

In that meadow, a canvas of
wildflowers billows with their fuzzy stems is
one of earth’s heady perfume.

Honey,

over the floral delights
are the busy bees harvesting
under the heat of spring time.

A golden mosaic that glows in sunlight,
a pollen plucked from nature’s arms to be
a sweet nectar.

A marvel of nature’s engineering collapsing on each other
as hexagon chambers oozing
an amber ecstasy of shared saliva.

Honey, the air is buzzing, veering,
a dissonance of hymns,
by jiving bees. All the flapping,
humming, carrying the weight of their own
impossible anatomies. Honey,
surely, we, too, can survive by each other’s mouth.
As do they.
Salivating on each other’s sweetness
because
isn't this why bees make honeys?
