vertigo

Before the second episode of the Philippines Graphic Literary Workshop (PGLW) concluded on March 21, we knew that we had one more thing that we can offer our bright young fellows: a starting platform for their creative endeavors. Here, we present one of their final outputs from the workshop. We also asked them to provide an artwork that they think best represents their stories. Read on.

give me your vertigo,

i implore,

crumble all rationality,

your eyes like

bloodied moons,

uncanny to mine.

make a wish

to the last stick

facing upwards.

warmth comes down

to the chill of the night.

let us surrender

past the doors

and when you tire,

let us spiral.

these eyes without faces

are incapable of judgement.

though biblically angelic

through mortal vision,

they, like us, are grotesque.

let us contort

and commit to vulgarity.

let ourselves metamorphose

into indifference,

kindred beasts on the dance floor.

come, nameless apparition,

surrender your name

to the curse of amnesia

come daylight and sobriety.

supernatural movements,

undistinguished,

contorting,

deforming,

distorting,

bodies shifting

to the dulcet tones of modern ballads.

aligned to the cascading spectrums

across shifting faces.

their voices grow loud

then ringing,

then hushed.

the lights have dimmed.
