ArenaPlus, your 24/7 sports entertainment platform, joined the celebration of Pinoy pride as Filipino athletes and Olympians gathered for the annual San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sportswriters Association (SMC-PSA) Awards Night on Monday, January 28, at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel.
The Philippine Sportswriters Association is the oldest media organization in the Philippines, with membership consists of sportswriters and editors from various tabloids, newspapers, and sports websites in the country.
With the theme “Golden Year, Golden Centenary,” the PSA Awards honored a total of 117 awardees from various sports. Filipino Olympians were present as the special guests of honor, recognizing their hard work and sacrifices in representing the country.
Among the notable names present were Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard “Dickie” Bachmann, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, and Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports.
Total GameZone Xtreme Incorporated President Rafael Jasper Vicencio participated in the celebration, presenting awards to honorees such as the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines for National Sports Association of the Year, Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino for Executive of the Year, and Olympian boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas for President’s Award.
Highlighting the night was the recognition of ArenaPlus ambassador and double-gold Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo, who was the deserving recipient of the highly coveted Athlete of the Year accolade for his historic achievement of winning the country’s first-ever Olympic double gold during the Paris Games.
ArenaPlus added to the excitement of the night by distributing premium merchandise to all event attendees.
