D. Edgard A. Cabangon, Chairman of the ALC Group of Companies, was honored with the 2024 Gawad Parangal for Elderly Filipinos in Business during the ceremony at One Shangri-La Place on October 7, 2024. This award recognizes his exceptional contributions and unwavering dedication to the welfare and empowerment of elderly Filipinos.

The award was presented by Congressman Rodolfo “Ompong” Ordanes, representative of the Senior Citizens Party-list, along with Lolly Acosta, the 2024 Chairperson of the Gawad Parangal for the Elderly Filipinos.

Awards Chairperson Lolly Acosta shared that Cabangon was recognized not only for fulfilling his father, Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua’s dreams, but also for continuing his legacy. Among his notable achievements is the launch of Aliw Channel 23 on June 23, 2023, fulfilling his father’s lifelong dream of having his own TV station. With approval from the National Telecommunications Commission in 2022, Aliw Broadcasting Corporation now operates in Metro Manila and Mega Manila on Channel 23. This, along with the continuous growth of businesses under the ALC Group of Companies—including the Eternal Group, Isuzu Gencars, and Sandari Calatagan, among others—showcases Cabangon’s deep respect for and commitment to the values instilled by his father.“This person, katulad ng dad n’ya na si Amb. Antonio L. Cabangon Chua ay napakasigpag. I’m sure that the father is beaming with pride. Kasi yung mga wishes ng kanyang father ay na-accomplish nya,” Acosta shared.

Having recently turned 60, Cabangon proudly embraces his role as a senior citizen, emphasizing the importance of cherishing the wisdom of elders. “Their experiences are invaluable resources that can help us navigate the complexities of both life and business,” he remarked.

He encouraged younger generations to engage with and learn from the elderly, sharing that he has been fortunate to have mentors among them who guide his journey. ” To the younger generations, please take time to listen to and learn from our elders. Their stories can guide you on your own journey. I am thankful for the guidance and inspiration I have received from the elderly around me.”

Cabangon dedicated the award to his father, “I dedicate this award to my father, whose dreams I still strive to fulfill everyday. His vision inspires me to continue expanding our businesses while enhancing our commitment to societal well-being. I love you, dad!”

The ceremony also recognized several distinguished individuals, including Department of Health Secretary Teodoro “Ted” J. Herbosa, PCSO General Manager Melquiades A. Robles, Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano, Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr., PNP CIDG Director Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, and Ilocos Sur Former Governor Luis “Chavit” Sison, among others.
