Manila, Philippines (January 2025) – In a groundbreaking move reinforcing RLC Residences’ commitment to sustainability, The Residences at The Westin Manila has fully transitioned to 100% renewable energy. Completed on December 26, 2024, this milestone makes it the first of RLC Residences property to integrate renewable energy under the The Westin Manila(GEOP).

Switching to renewable energy benefits both the environment and our homeowners, translating to energy cost savings of about 8-10% for residents. It’s a win-win for us, our clients, and the planet,” said Chad Sotelo, RLC Residences’ Senior Vice President – Business Unit General Manager and Robinsons Land’s Chief Marketing Officer.
This shift, in partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), marks RLC Residences’ pilot project under GEOP – a voluntary program under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008. This initiative allows qualified end-users to choose renewable energy as their power source, reducing reliance on depleting natural resources like coal and petroleum, lessening carbon emissions, and potentially lowering utility costs.
“The Residences at The Westin Manila is the first of many – which is part of our commitment to deliver 1 million sqm. of net zero condominiums to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) by 2031. Currently, seven more developments are transitioning to renewable energy, with completion expected in the first half of the year. Twenty more to be initiated to switch within the next two years,” adds Sotelo.
ACEN RES estimates that once 28 RLC Residences projects complete their transition, 344,281 kilograms of CO2 emissions will be reduced annually.
In 2024, RLC Residences partnered with IFC to commit one million square meters (GFA) of net zero carbon and resilient condominiums by 2031. The collaboration focuses on identifying, evaluating, and implementing green building measures using Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) certification and verifying resilience ratings through IFC’s Building Resilience Index (BRI) tool.
