The design trends set to supercharge Filipino creativity in 2026

The creative economy contributed an estimated 7.3 percent of the Philippines’ GDP in 2024 according to the Philippine Statistics Authority to highlight the growing role of creativity in business and culture. Filipino brands and creators are challenged to adapt without losing the authenticity that resonates with local audiences as Artificial Intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms content creation.

Canva recently unveiled the Design Trends 2026 that draws insights from its Design Advisory Board, a survey of 1,000 creators from the US and Brazil, and behavior from over 260 million creators on Canva. A clear theme emerged: visual authenticity matters more than ever as AI becomes more embedded in creative work.

This shift has given rise to a new creative standard dubbed Imperfect by Design where creators favor designs that feel human, expressive, and relatable over overly polished outputs. “AI is accelerating how Filipinos create, but it’s human emotion that keeps the work meaningful. We’re seeing creators embrace designs that feel imperfect, expressive, and deeply personal and that’s becoming the new creative edge in 2026,” shared Angelo Cuyegkeng, Design Lead, Canva Philippines

AI is now a core part of creative workflows, with 49 percent using AI tools weekly and 30 percent daily, reinforcing its role as a creative collaborator.

Among the key visual trends for 2026 is Reality Warp, driven by AI and marked by bold, surreal visuals built to capture attention and amplify self-expression. Other key trends noted by the survey were Drama Club and Prompt Playground which reflects growing experimentation as creators use AI to transform technical formats into playful creative outputs. Searches tied to lo-fi, motion collage, and retro-tech aesthetics also rose to 48.9% per Canva.

On the other side of the fence, searches for “clean layout,” “serif,” and “simple branding” grew 54% year over year, reaching 45 million impressions on Canva.

In an increasingly automated landscape, designs that feel real may be what stands out most as Filipino brands look to hinge on using AI with intention, while trying to keep human creativity, emotion, and authenticity at its core for success in 2026.
