In support of the Department of Trade and Industry’s Consumer Welfare Month initiatives, TikTok Shop highlighted buyer protection measures and its #TikTokShopSmart campaign ahead of the Mega Sales season.

VIA GRAPHIC PLUS — In observance of Consumer Welfare Month, TikTok Shop is highlighting its platform safeguards and buyer support mechanisms alongside efforts to strengthen consumer education in the Philippines. Through its collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry and its #TikTokShopSmart campaign, TikTok Shop is addressing consumer protection at different stages of the shopping journey, from understanding product and seller information to knowing where to seek assistance when transaction concerns arise.

TikTok Shop is a discovery-led e-Commerce platform that integrates content, creators, brands and sellers in one connected shopping journey. By embedding product discovery into how consumers engage with content, TikTok Shop is shaping a new model of commerce that reflects how consumers across Southeast Asia shop, discover and engage with brands.

Platform safeguards support buyer protection

TikTok Shop implements platform policies and proactive safety measures designed to help keep counterfeit goods, unsafe products, and bad actors off the platform, preventing them from reaching consumers. These include rigorous seller verification, product compliance checks, detection technology, and strong intellectual property protection. The platform also provides post-purchase support, including clear return and refund processes, to help buyers address concerns about their transactions. Together, these measures form part of TikTok Shop’s safety-by-design approach, with safeguards applied at different stages of the shopping journey.

According to TikTok Shop’s Global Safety Report covering July 2025 to July 2026, the platform rejected more than 208 million products before listing, equating to 99% of violative products being removed proactively. A further 2 million restricted or prohibited products were removed after listing.

“At TikTok Shop, we want our shoppers to feel confident about buying on the platform. This is why we work hard to develop and implement safeguards across the shopping journey, from product listing and seller compliance to post-purchase assistance. We also recognize that consumers need clear, accessible information to understand product details, assess potential risks, and know what steps they can take when a concern arises. Through our #TikTokShopSmart campaign, we are able to empower consumers to make informed shopping decisions,” said Yves Gonzalez, Head of Public Policy for the Philippines at TikTok Shop.

Working with consumer organizations to strengthen product safety communication

As part of its collaboration with the DTI for Consumer Welfare Month, TikTok contributed a session to the consumer organization assembly focused on communicating product safety information and consumer rights through digital platforms.

The session, “Sharing Product Safety Online: How to Turn Product Safety Information into Consumer Action,” was led by J. Em Ang (@askjemang_), a Filipino business consultant, certified public accountant, tax advisor, and content creator known for simplifying financial literacy and taxation topics for Filipino audiences.

Content creator J. Em Ang leads a session on communicating product safety information through digital platforms during the consumer organization assembly organized by the DTI for Consumer Welfare Month.

It covered ways consumer organizations can translate product safety warnings, recalls, information on counterfeit and unsafe products, and consumer advisories into clear and helpful digital content. The discussion also covered principles and content ideas for short-form advocacy videos, with an emphasis on accuracy and transparency when communicating information to the public.

#TikTokShopSmart promotes informed shopping ahead of Mega Sales

As consumers prepare for TikTok Shop’s upcoming 11.11 and 12.12 Mega Sales, #TikTokShopSmart continues to share practical shopping tips and consumer education content to help shoppers make more informed purchasing decisions. Topics include finding quality and authentic products on TikTok Shop Mall, product safety and certifications, consumers’ right to redress, and anti-counterfeiting, as well as guidance on what to consider before making a purchase.

#TikTokShopSmart content shares practical shopping tips and consumer education on topics such as product safety, authentic products, and consumer rights.

These topics complement TikTok Shop’s platform safeguards by helping consumers understand what to look for when evaluating products and sellers. Shoppers are encouraged to review product descriptions, check customer ratings and reviews, and assess seller information before placing an order. They can also understand the support available for their purchases, including applicable return and refund processes and channels for raising transaction concerns.

TikTok Shop is also committed to enabling micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local businesses across Southeast Asia to participate in the digital economy, reach new customers and explore opportunities beyond their home markets. Across Southeast Asia, discovery e-Commerce has opened new pathways to growth: from rural artisans accessing urban and cross-border markets for the first time, to traditional retailers building digital storefronts that complement their physical presence. By lowering the barriers to digital commerce, TikTok Shop is helping to empower MSMEs to build a more inclusive digital economy and drive economic growth in the region.
