At the Seine

Were the ripples at the river Seine

My memories, your face will be broken

Into a thousand pieces, each fragment of you

Cut into countless shimmers

Dancing in incandescent light on water.

The night we sailed down the Seine,

We crossed a river of memories.

The bridges, the obelisk, palaces, and monuments

The Louvre, the Notre Dame, the Eiffel—

Are all that are left of the City’s past.

Left alone at the quay tonight,

I gaze at the thousand ripples

Splashing on the embankment walls.

Like a dam revolting, my mind unleashes

A stream of memories, restless in this nocturnal calm.
