The new era of preventive medicine: Advancing BHRT and Pharmacy Compounding Awareness in the Philippines

via GRAPHIC PLUS | MEDTECH — For years, the pharmaceutical industry has focused on providing standardized treatments for broad efficiency. While effective for general care, there is now an opportunity and growing recognition that individuals respond differently to medication– driving interest in precision medicine where treatment is tailored to the patient.

This pivot is central to ASL Pharma’s expansion into the Philippines, as the Malaysia-headquartered company brings its expertise in personalized medicine and pharmacy compounding into the country’s evolving healthcare. As part of this effort, the company recently hosted a 2.5-day physician training program, followed by a public forum to raise awareness on hormone health and healthy aging.

During the lecture series at the Ascott Hotel BGC, globally-renowned educator and pioneer in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), Dr. Neal Rouzier, shared his expertise in hormone optimization. He emphasized how pharmacy compounding, particularly BHRT supports a more personalized approach to care using hormones identical to those produced naturally by the body.

“When we talk about BHRT, it is important to understand that it encompasses a wide spectrum of treatments that vary depending on patient needs,” he said.

As hormones decline with age, this can increase risks of certain health concerns such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, diabetes, and more.  Bioidentical hormone therapy is designed to help restore hormonal balance, which may support key systems such as bone, heart, brain, and reproductive health, and contribute to overall well-being.

Raising Standards in Pharmacy Compounding

Beyond customization, pharmacy compounding also offers flexible delivery methods and access to medications that may no longer be commercially available. This specialized process follows stringent standards using pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, ensuring treatment effectiveness, safety, and better outcomes for a reliable patient experience.

However, despite a strong demand for BHRT and pharmacy compounding across the Philippines and neighboring markets, its adoption remains limited by gaps in physician education and training.

“When I started years ago, there was no formal training or medical journals to support it. We were building the field from the ground up, and have been teaching about it ever since,” Dr. Neal said.

Expanding Access Through Education

Working alongside ASL Pharma, Dr Rouzier aims to expand access to BHRT education and its adoption in the Philippines. Headquartered in Malaysia and with over 15 years of experience in personalized medicine, ASL Pharma is a leading premium compounding pharmacy in Southeast Asia with a strong regional presence built through physician education, clinical collaboration and advancing access to individualized treatments.

“Improvement in quality of life is one of the most consistent findings in hormone therapy studies. That’s what’s driving both patient demand and physician interest,” he explained.

This initiative ensures that healthcare providers reach high standards of competency, while reinforcing the company’s commitment to excellence in empowering practitioners to integrate preventive medicine into their medical practice and advancing preventive medicine across the country.

Following the success of the initial sessions, Dr. Neal Rouzier is set to return this August for the next phase of training, focusing on deeper clinical applications of precision medicine.

Regional Impact and Future Outlook

With its expansion into the Philippines, ASL Pharma aims to strengthen physician training, improve access to personalized therapies, and support a more preventive approach to healthcare.

Today, ASL Pharma supports around 400 doctors and thousands of patients across Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan and beyond, reflecting its growing role in shaping the future of personalized and preventive healthcare in the region.
