Marking 77 years of service to the Filipino people, the Insurance Commission (IC) celebrated its anniversary on March 16, 2026 at the Philippine International Convention Center.
The occasion served as an opportunity to reflect on the commission’s accomplishments over the past year, outline its priorities for the future, and strengthen partnerships with other government agencies. Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go, alongside representatives from various government offices and industry partners, graced the event.
Anchored on the theme “Protecting Today, Securing Tomorrow,” IC’s anniversary celebration highlighted the enduring purpose of insurance, especially in a society increasingly exposed to various risks. Alluding to the current public issues, Insurance Commissioner Reynaldo A. Regalado emphasized the significance of insurance as a vital safety net for all Filipinos.
“Moments like these times remind us that uncertainty is a constant part of life. Even the most carefully-made plans can be disrupted by events beyond our control. This is further heightened by global tensions, rising costs of living, and increasing frequency of natural disasters,” Regalado said his welcoming remarks.
“Thus, we are reminded of the enduring purpose of insurance: An act of protection today helps secure tomorrow,” he added.
TOWARDS BROADER PROTECTION AND INNOVATION
As keynote speaker, Go lauded the Insurance Commission for its effective oversight of the insurance industry and for the sector’s strong performance.
“Across nearly every major measure, the Philippine insurance industry posted strong performance. One milestone stands out in particular: For the first time in history, total premiums surpassed the half-trillion peso mark, reaching over P500 billion. Congratulations to IC and to all our industry partners,” the finance secretary remarked.
He added that success should not be measured by industry growth alone. “In the end, our success cannot be measured by industry growth alone. It must be measured by the people whose lives are protected. Families who can focus on recovery when illness strikes. Communities that can rebuild after disasters. Employees who receive support after accidents. Entrepreneurs who can keep their businesses going despite unexpected setbacks,” Go said. The finance chief encouraged the IC and industry partners to continue advancing inclusive and socially responsive solutions.
“Every step forward strengthens the industry’s role as a trusted partner in nation-building, safeguarding lives, empowering communities, and supporting the sustainable growth of our economy,” Go encouraged IC.
FORGING PARTNERSHIPS
A key highlight of the event was the signing of several memoranda of agreement (MOA) and understanding among IC and various government agencies.
IC entered into a MOA with the Bureau of the Treasury, Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Philippine Deposit Insurance Center (PDIC), Social Security System (SSS), and Land Bank of the Philippines to implement a Shared Cyber Defense Solution, strengthening cybersecurity across the insurance cluster.
Under the agreement, Land Bank will handle the bidding and procurement of the cyber defense solution. The participating agencies will set technical requirements and supervise implementation through a Joint Technical Working Group, while an Interagency Oversight Committee of information technology and security officials will monitor developments and recommend security measures.
IC also signed MOAs with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), and National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) to enhance data sharing, further supporting the agencies’ mandates.
These agreements aim to improve regulatory coordination, enhance monitoring and compliance, and ensure the efficient execution of mandates such as tax oversight, anti- money laundering measures, and protection of workers’ rights.
To strengthen and institutionalize financial literacy and financial education programs, IC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cooperative Development Authority.
SERVICE AT THE HEART OF I.C.
To cap the anniversary celebrations, the IC recognized the dedication and achievements of its employees. Loyalty awards were given to those who have served in government for 10 to 35 years, while the IC Achievement Award honored the Accounting Division for receiving a recognition from a professional organization.
The IC also unveiled a new Bagong Pilipinas video, highlighting the importance of insurance and showcasing the country’s progress.
“Today’s celebration is also a call to action—a reminder that, while we acknowledge the progress we have made, much work still lies ahead. May the presence and support of our stakeholders, and especially our Finance Secretary, inspire us to move forward and achieve even greater accomplishments,” Regalado concluded.
