QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The 11th annual World Pandesal Day, a civic and cultural initiative that will distribute 100,000 free pandesal and other foods to the public and communities in need on Friday, October 16, beginning at 10 a.m. at the historic Kamuning Bakery Cafe in Barangay Kamuning, Quezon City.

The 87-year-old Kamuning Bakery Cafe, located at the corner of Judge Jimenez Street and K-1st Street in Barangay Kamuning, Quezon City, will share free breads, Eden Cheese and other foods. Beyond the free pandesal and other food to be shared at the bakery, packs of pandesal will also be shared to orphanages and public schools, extending the warmth of the initiative to children and communities who need it most.

World Pandesal Day was launched in 2015 by Kamuning Bakery Cafe owner and real-estate entrepreneur Wilson Lee Flores, inspired by the biblical story of the boy who offered five loaves and two fish, which Jesus multiplied to feed thousands of people. What began as a modest civic initiative has grown into an annual celebration of Filipino bread, generosity and community spirit, with #WorldPandesalDay now used by supporters in the Philippines and other countries. Oct. 16 is also the United Nations’ “World Food Day”.

The inaugural 2015 celebration featured GMA Network Chairman Atty. Felipe Gozon, then-Congressman Sonny Angara, and then-National Youth Commission Commissioner Dingdong Dantes as special guests, while this year’s celebration includes support from First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

The initiative warmly invites the public to celebrate World Pandesal Day on October 16 by sharing their own pandesal memories, photos, videos, and such using the hashtag #WorldPandesalDay. Bakeries, Filipino communities and supporters in the Philippines and abroad are likewise encouraged to participate by sharing pandesal and spreading the message of generosity.
