Jeremiah, Once more from the top

Known for their smooth, soulful sound rooted in easy listening, the 90’s boy band Jeremiah takes a trip down memory lane in their coming April 12 show at the Dusk at 27th Rooftop Bar of the Berjaya Hotel in Makati.

Back in the late 90s, Jeremiah topped the OPM charts with their hit song “Nanghihinayang,” a featured melody in the Jolina Magdangal-Marvin Agustin 1998 starrer, Labs Kita, Okey Ka lang.

Then in their teens—Froilan Calixto, Piwee Polintan, Olan Crizaldo, and Symon Soler rose to fame in 1998, when “Nanghihinayang” stayed on top of the music charts for 20 weeks.

The band’s debut album, “Heart and Soul of Jeremiah,” went gold only one month after its release.

Jeremiah was awarded “Best New Group Singer/Entertainer” by Awit Awards, “Most Popular Group Entertainer” by Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. and several record awards by PARI.

A year later, Jeremiah’s “Oh Babe,” again hit the charts as it became the theme song in a follow-up Jolina Magdangal-Marvin Agustin film, Hey Babe. This was followed by the band’s “Hanggang sa Kailanman,” from the movie Esperanza, starring Judy Ann Santos.

With their records among the best-selling, multi-platinum by status, other Jeremiah hit tunes followed— “Hindi Ako Katulad Niya,” “Kunin Mo Na Ang Lahat Sa Akin,” “Bakit Ka Iiyak?” and many others, before the band disbanded in 2005.

In 2023, the band held a 25th Anniversary reunion concert at the Music Museum.

On April 12 at 9 p.m., Froilan Calixto and Piwee Polintan lead the new, reformed Jeremiah—singing their trademark soulful, easy listening sound at the Dusk at 27th Rooftop Bar, Berjaya Hotel, Makati City.
