Mention Taiwan and immediately, its tasty food offerings immediately come to mind. Taiwan is renowned for exquisite cuisine, with a vast array of culinary delights that capture its rich culture and traditions. Most popular of these are Taiwanese noodles – a top favorite all over the world, celebrated for their rich flavors and unique preparation that has been passed down through generations.
In Taiwan, the world-famous restaurant called Du Hsiao Yueh brings Taiwan’s age-old culinary traditions to life. Dating back to 1895, it began as a humble noodle stall by Hong, a fisherman from Tainan, Taiwan who was unable to fish during the rough “Hsiao Yueh” months. He carried his wares through the streets with a shoulder pole and marked his stand with a lantern inscribed with “Du Hsiao Yueh Dan Zai Noodles.” Locals fell in love with the noodles, and Hong’s modest venture eventually became a revered Taiwanese institution that would live to this day and become well-known all over the world.
Today, Filipinos have an opportunity to experience Hong’s legacy. That’s because Du Hsiao Yueh has landed at SM North EDSA to delight Filipino food lovers who want to experience the authentic rich and savory flavors of Taiwan without ever having to leave the country.
A visit to Du Hsiao Yueh in SM North EDSA is like walking into the original Du Hsiao Yueh in Taipei – from the look of the restaurant to its ambience and of course, its tasty dishes. Its signature dish, Danzai Noodles, is a must-try, made with special imported minced pork, Tarakan Eco-shrimp, Century- Wu Hsian vinegar sauce, and shrimp broth, a classic recipe passed down from more than 100 years ago. Also on the menu is Xiao Long Bao, a favorite filled with a delicious, hot soup that bursts in every bite. Not to be missed are the Braised Beef Noodles, offering tender beef in a rich, savory broth; the Oyster and Radish Omelette, a delightful blend of textures and flavors; Crispy Intestines, a traditional Taiwanese dish when you’re feeling adventurous; and Chicken Chop, a staple dish in Taiwan which every Filipino palate will love.

About Du Hsiao Yueh
Founded in 1895 by a fisherman / ancestor Mr. Hong Yu To. Du Hsiao Yueh started from a humble beginning where Mr. Hong Yu To peddled noodles with a shoulder pole which transitioned to a stand on a street in Tainan during fishing’s off season. Locals liked the unique taste of his Dan Zai Noodles that it became so popular that Mr. Hong continued to sell it branded “Du Hsiao Yueh Dan Zai Noodles”. Today, the fourth generation continues to manage the brand.
