Maynilad advances NEW WATER program to strengthen sustainable water supply

VIA GRAPHIC PLUS — West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is advancing its NEW WATER program as part of its efforts to develop sustainable and climate-resilient water sources.

The Valenzuela Modular Treatment Plant is designed to produce NEW WATER using treated effluent and is maintained as a standby facility that can be activated during supply disruptions or maintenance activities affecting primary water sources. When activated, it can support select areas in Barangay Marulas, Valenzuela City, with a production capacity of 1 million liters per day (MLD).

NEW WATER undergoes advanced treatment processes—including ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and disinfection—and meets the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water, ensuring that it is safe for consumption.

Maynilad first implemented potable water reuse through its Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant, the first facility of its kind in the Philippines. The project gained international recognition after being named “Water Reuse Project of the Year” at the Global Water Awards, underscoring the viability of NEW WATER as a sustainable water supply solution.

Maynilad is also preparing to commission its NEW WATER facility in Pasay in 2026, with a capacity of 12 MLD, which will further expand the availability of potable recycled water in its service area.

“As water demand continues to grow and climate variability affects traditional sources, developing alternative water supply solutions like NEW WATER is becoming increasingly important,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

Maynilad’s NEW WATER program forms part of its broader strategy to enhance supply reliability and sustainability, while supporting responsible water resource management for the communities it serves.
