Following its tradition of producing acclaimed Lenten Specials for the past 14 years, Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom) proudly presents“Sumasampalataya Ako” this Holy Week 2019.

Gathering together a treasured collection of stories- from a talented Jesuit poet, a media personality who paints the image of Christ every Good Friday, to a diocesan priest who travels to remote areas to celebrate the Mass- “Sumasampalataya Ako” touches on these deep personal revelations where one encounters the breathtaking beauty and sheer wonder of the Catholic faith.

“Seeing the ‘beauty’ of faith, literally, we can find it in stunningly beautiful depictions similar to taking in the essence of the Mass, watching things unfold in slow-motion and intensifying your desire to pray in that very moment,” describes JesCom Creative Director Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin.

“On the ‘figurative’ aspect of ‘beauty’, ‘Sumasampalataya Ako’ highlights the integral areas of faith that include the doctrine and basic teachings of the Catholic Church, the observance of sacraments and how the Church is made of a people united in prayer, and the eye-opening devotions to the Nazareno and Sinulog to name a few.”

In between these featured faith testimonials will be the reflections and discussion points of the esteemed Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle himself. “Cardinal Tagle will be ‘Sumasampalataya’s main resource speaker. He can best explain these remarkable displays of faith and weave together all the answers that depict its unique beauty. We’ll also incorporate the viewpoints of a lay theologian for a balanced perspective,” expounds Ms.Mangilog-Saltarin.

As audiences follow the narrative of how art reflects the prayers and sentiments of entire communities, or how a media-couple keeps their strong devotion to Padre Pio and St.Anthony of Padua, “Sumasampalataya Ako” seeks to inspire the faithful to rekindle their faith in God, the Catholic Church and the beloved traditions that have stood the test of time.

“Amidst the many criticisms faced by the Catholic Church, it’s nice to watch something that renews and refreshes our faith. As we sit back, look and listen to these people, we can actually see the beauty of faith even in little things like participating in Mass or observing art,” underscores Ms.Mangilog-Saltarin.

“As we see people helping others get through life’s challenges, being generous through charity; we hope that through looking, listening and being inspired to act, the undeniable beauty of faith can be shown.”

JesCom’s 2019 Lenten Special, “Sumasampalataya Ako” airs on Good Friday, April 19, 2019, 4pm on ABS-CBN Channel 2.
