The British Council in the Philippines is pleased to announce the four-day event, Partner South East Asia: Arts and Culture Matters, taking place online from Nov. 22 to Nov. 25.
The event includes a country briefing, which features a powerhouse line-up from the Philippine arts and cultural sector.
British Council in the Philippines is hosting Entry points to the Philippines and UK on Nov. 25 Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (PHL time).
The session will give an overview of Philippine-UK connections and challenges from a cultural and socio-economic perspective. It will also explore existing links created through the arts, trade and migration and reflect on how these can become gateways for artistic collaboration, innovation and stronger cultural relations.
This discussion will gather notable sector leaders, featuring: Hon. Loren Legarda, Deputy Speaker, District Representative Antique, Philippines; Pio Abad,Visual artist (UK-PH); Pauline Juan, Executive Director, Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), Philippines; Chris Millado, Artistic Director, Cultural Center of the Philippines; and Deirdre McKay, Professor of Sustainable Development, Keele University, Chair, ASEAS-UK. The session will be moderated by Dr Rafael Schacter, Curator, Lecturer, Anthropology and Material Culture, University College London.
Developing new connections between South East Asian and UK arts and culture stakeholders is a key focus of the British Council. With an exciting programme curated by British Council offices from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam, the event aims to reach arts and cultural professionals, academics, funders and government officials from the UK and South East Asia.
Participants can expect dynamic discussions, artistic showcasing and networking events with some of the world’s leading thinkers, artists and creative entrepreneurs. They will gain new insights and learn more about the top trends and opportunities for new work in the arts, culture and creative economy.
