The SEA Trophy Manila Series, a prestigious short-track speed skating competition, made its debut in the Philippines at SM Skating recently, with the strong support of the International Skating Union (ISU) Development Commission.
This historic event marked the first time that the Philippines hosted the SEA Trophy for short-track speed skating, drawing participants from seven countries and showcasing remarkable talent and sportsmanship.
Organized by the Philippine Skating Union, the event brought together 58 registrants from various nations, including Australia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, India, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Athletes from the host country, the Philippines, achieved an impressive feat by securing a total of 44 medals, including 5 gold, 24 silver, and 15 bronze.
The opening ceremony of the SEA Trophy Manila Series was a momentous occasion graced by distinguished guests, including: President of the Asian Skating Union, Myong Hi Chang, President of the Philippine Skating Union, Dyan Cheng, Deputy Secretary General of the Philippine Olympic Committee Carl Sambrano, First Secretary, Indian Embassy in Manila Kannan Chockalingam, First Secretary, and Royal Thai Embassy in Manila Witsarut Piyavongsomboon and Steve Hontiveros, Chairman of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
The SEA Trophy competition officials comprised a panel of esteemed delegates from Korea, China, Chinese Taipei, and Poland, who ensured the event’s smooth and fair operation.
