Commuters to have safer, more convenient transportation

SM Prime Holdings Inc., in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), led the groundbreaking ceremony of the EDSA Busway concourses at the SM North EDSA on Feb. 13.

The event marked the beginning of a transformative journey towards safer, more comfortable, and more convenient commutes along the country’s main thoroughfare.

“SM fully supports initiatives that seek to promote sustainable and equitable reforms to uplift communities where our malls are located. With this concourse at SM North EDSA, SM hopes to be able to contribute to a more enjoyable, safe, and convenient commute for Filipinos who face the challenges of traversing the busy EDSA artery to work, study or go about their daily tasks.” said Jeffrey Lim, President of SM Prime Holdings Inc., during his speech.

The EDSA Busway initiative is a joint program started by the DOTr, supported by DPWH, and MMDA. The concourses will allow faster travel time for commuters, providing a comfortable commute for the Filipinos and improve mobility for pedestrians along EDSA.

Located strategically at SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, and SM Mall of Asia, the three concourses and access bridges will complement the DOTr’s innovative EDSA Busway initiative. Designed to provide safe and convenient access to the Edsa Busway Stations, these concourses will feature state-of-the-art design and facilities, including concierge services, ticketing booths, and turnstiles for the Automatic Fare Collection System.

Moreover, ramps and elevators will ensure easy access for commuters of all ages and abilities, including persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and pregnant women. This dedication to inclusivity reflects the shared vision of SM and the DOTr to create transportation infrastructure that serves the needs of every Filipino.

The construction of the EDSA Busway concourses in SM malls is set to be completed on in the coming years, and commuters can look forward to a future where traveling along EDSA is not only efficient but also enjoyable.
