Covenant of Unity and Mutual Support Signed Between Gonzales of PDSP and Matula of FFW and WPP

Former Defense Secretary Norberto B. Gonzales, chairman of the Partido Demokratiko Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (PDSP), is set to file his certificate of candidacy for senator in the upcoming May 2025 elections. His candidacy is supported by the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) and the Workers Party of the Philippines (WPP).

In a historic show of solidarity, Gonzales and Atty. Sonny G. Matula, FFW President and leader of the Workers Party of the Philippines, signed a “Covenant of Unity and Mutual Support” for their senatorial campaigns.

The signing took place before 500 union members of the United Cirtek Employees Association-FFW in Biñan City. This alliance represents a shared vision for governance grounded in social justice, labor rights, and national sovereignty.

The Covenant, signed on October 6, 2024, in Biñan, Laguna, highlights the following commitments:

       1.     Shared Values and Vision: Both leaders affirm their dedication to social democracy, authentic humanism, social equity, and economic prosperity for all Filipinos, with a focus on the marginalized and underprivileged.

       2.     Labor Rights and Social Democracy: Gonzales and Matula advocate for policies that ensure decent work, fair employment opportunities, and the protection of labor rights across all sectors.

       3.     Sovereignty and National Patrimony: The Covenant emphasizes the protection of the Philippines’ sovereignty and territorial rights, safeguarding the nation’s resources from foreign exploitation.

       4.     Transparency and Accountability: Both candidates commit to ethical governance, transparency, and fostering trust between the government and the people, emphasizing grassroots participation in decision-making.

       5.     Mutual Endorsement and Support: Gonzales and Matula pledge to endorse each other’s senatorial campaigns, combining their resources and platforms to present a united front.

In his statement, Gonzales said, “We are not merely running for office; we are running to advocate for a future where social justice, labor rights, and national sovereignty are at the core of our nation’s agenda.”

Matula echoed this sentiment, saying, “Together, we will fight for the workers, the marginalized, and all Filipinos striving for a better life. This Covenant reflects our unity in pushing for genuine reform and prosperity for all.”
