On 30 May 2025, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya attended the 38th Anniversary Ceremony of the General Headquarters and Headquarters Service Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at the Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, where the Philippine Department of National Defense and other key defense organizations are located.
Camp Aguinaldo, formerly known as Camp Murphy, has a distinguished 90-year history. In 1987, it became the official site of the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and this year marked the 38th anniversary of its formation.
Brigadier General Arevalo, Commander of the Headquarters Service Command, highlighted the theme of this year as “Building a Solid Foundation for a World-Class Camp Aguinaldo through Innovation, Transformation, and Excellence.”
The “Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP),” currently under construction, will also include a Camp Aguinaldo station. The subway construction, which Japan is supporting through Official Development Assistance (ODA), is highly anticipated by the AFP as it will bring about significant enhancement in mobility, accessibility and environmental sustainability. The inclusion of a station at Camp Aguinaldo is expected to benefit both military personnel and the broader public.
Ambassador Endo reaffirmed Japan’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Philippines in its efforts to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development through strategic infrastructure projects, enhanced defense cooperation, and strengthened people-to-people exchanges.
