SNAP brings ESG to the forefront in series of forums across its host communities

Renewable energy solutions provider, SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by placing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles at the center of its annual Host Communities’ Forums this September.

Themed “Redefining Impact: ESG in Community Development,” the forums brought together more than 200 representatives from local government units (LGUs) and indigenous peoples’ organizations from the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya. The forum highlighted how ESG principles can strengthen resilience and sustainability in host communities.

This year’s guest speaker, Mardi Mapa-Suplido, Chief Operating Officer of Aboitiz Foundation Inc., delivered the keynote address, encouraging the attendees to see ESG not just as a corporate concept but as a practical tool for improving governance.

The first leg was held in Itogon, Benguet on September 3, 2025, with around 80 participants in attendance. A key highlight of the forum was the presentation of the status of SNAP’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, alongside updates on other ongoing development initiatives. Earlier this year, the 40-MW Binga BESS 1 broke ground, the first in the Cordillera Administrative Region to reach financial close and begin construction.

SNAP-Magat followed with its own community forums on September 16 and 17, covering Ifugao and Isabela, & Nueva Vizcaya, and gathering around 150 local leaders.

Throughout the three forums, SNAP and community representatives expressed gratitude and optimism for future collaborations that will continue to drive progress in their communities.

“By embedding ESG principles into our projects and partnerships, we aim to build not just energy facilities but also stronger, more inclusive, and future-ready communities,” said Joseph Yu, SNAP President and Chief Executive Officer.

Since 2008, SNAP’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program fund has completed more than 1,200 projects in social infrastructure, governance, indigenous peoples’ development, health, livelihood, education, and environment, amounting to approximately Php600 million in community investments. The Host Communities’ Forum is an annual event held by SNAP to update its community-based stakeholders on the company’s operations and initiatives, and facilitate their participation in improving its CSR program.
