Megaworld, the Philippines’ pioneering township developer, and IRONMAN, the world’s premier endurance sports brand, have officially renewed their partnership for the IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu, set to take place on August 10, 2025, at The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony was held to formalize the collaboration—one that has consistently brought globally recognized sporting events to the Philippines and cemented Cebu’s position as one of Asia’s top triathlon hubs.

Gracing the signing were Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan, Congressman Junard “Ahong” Chan, President and General Manager of IRONMAN Philippines Princess Galura, and Princess Galura, and the First Vice President and Head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls Graham Coates.

Set against the pristine backdrop of Mactan’s coastal waters and historical landmarks, IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu has become a landmark event in the global race calendar. The race previously earned the title of Best Spectator Race in the World in 2018, and this year is expected to welcome over 2,000 athletes from more than 40 countries, along with thousands of local and international spectators.

Beyond the race, the event brings a significant boost to local tourism and the economy, filling hotels, supporting restaurants and transport operators, and creating opportunities for small businesses in Lapu-Lapu City and nearby towns. It also amplifies the Philippines’ presence in the global sports tourism map.

This marks another milestone in Megaworld’s ongoing commitment to promote sports, wellness, and tourism through its world-class townships. The Mactan Newtown has become a natural stage for international sporting events, showcasing not just modern infrastructure but also the warmth and hospitality of the Filipino community.
