Sto. Tomas mobilizes more than 1,500 personnel for school opening for Citywide Brigada Eskwela

Via GRAPHIC PLUS — The schools of Sto. Tomas are ready for safer and more organized learning for the youth of Tomasino through the launch of the Citywide Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off on May 29, 2026, in preparation for the opening of classes for SY 2026–2027, the first of its kind in the Province of Batangas in terms of such a large-scale initiative this year.

More than one thousand five hundred (1,500) local government personnel were deployed to public schools across the city to assist in the cleaning and preparation of classrooms. This aims to ensure that schools are safe, clean, and conducive for the city’s 41,025 students.

According to Mayor Atty. Arth Jhun Aguilar Marasigan (AJAM), the unity of the City Government, teachers, barangays, and various agencies is vital in shaping the future of the Tomasino youth.

Dr. Neil G. Angeles, School Division Superintendent, also expressed his gratitude for the local government’s continuous support, which has greatly contributed to improving the quality of education in the city. He likewise highlighted the city’s significant achievement after ranking #1 in the Comprehensive Rapid Literacy Assessment (CRLA), recording the lowest percentage of struggling readers at 23.43% in SY 2025–2026.

A reading activity for students was also conducted with the assistance of LGU personnel as part of the advocacy to strengthen literacy and cultivate a love for reading.

This demonstrates the continued commitment of the City Government under the leadership of Mayor AJAM, together with Vice Mayor Catherine Jaurigue-Perez and the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, to the education sector—from preparing facilities, supporting teachers and students, to implementing programs that strengthen literacy and overall learning.
