SM’s HAPPY CHRISTMAS: Bridging the physical and digital world

Some call it “God’s very own light show.” Others regard it as the “holy grail of sky watching.” Only about 2% of the earth’s total 7.8 billion human population have experienced the Aurora Borealis or the “Northern Lights”—a magnificent show of colored light dancing across the 50-degrees-below-zero Arctic night sky in bright plumes of green, purple, red, violet, and white.

But this Christmas, Filipinos need not go and face the extremely cold temperatures of the Arctic Circle just to witness this sky spectacle of nature.

Right here at The Block Atrium of SM North EDSA in Quezon City, shoppers can witness the magnificent illuminating lights of the Aurora Borealis. Walk and indulge in a family-friendly immersive experience at the Aurora Trail, ascending the giant holiday tree with a magical array of lights, forestry, rein-bears and holiday polar express.

AUGMENTED REALITY

SM Supermalls is pulling out all the stops this Christmas. As the country eases from a two-year bout with the COVID-19 pandemic, SM welcomes its shoppers to magnificent Christmas displays dressed up in Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content. The content can span multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory.

AR technology virtually places a 3D visual into a “real-world” experience. This gives the user the appearance that the virtual object is co-existing with them in the physical world.

3D WHALE SHARK

SM Megamall in Mandaluyong: First-ever 3D Whale Shark billboard

You can view a slice of the deep ocean at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong’s LED billboard by screening a first-ever in the Philippines hyper-realistic 3D Whale Shark.

Get awestruck by the larger-than-life whale shark peeking out of the digital billboard spanning over 2,000 feet, right at the heart of the streaming metropolis.

The Mega Whale Shark was first teased on April 27 and by April 28, customers, tourists and motorists can catch the short preview every 15 minutes at peak hours from 12 noon to 10 p.m. daily.

SPACE TUNNEL

SM Megamall: Mega Space Odyssey, first-ever 3D LED tunnel

Indulge in a Mega Space Odyssey, the first-ever immersive 3D LED tunnel in Metro Manila at SM Megamall.

Travel to majestic galaxies in outer space and take photos and videos with your space explorer friends.

The 3D LED tunnel was opened to the public last Oct. 21 and will run until Dec. 25 at the ground level Mega Fashion Hall (at the back of the Giant Christmas Tree).

GOLDEN GATEWAY, NIGHT OF DAZZLING LIGHTS

Golden Gate, SM Aura Premier

An opulent holiday palace and fantastical golden worlds await those who enter the theatrical room of SM Aura at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.

Tucked behind a giant Christmas tree is a golden gemstone-shaped immersive experience made possible in partnership with global smartphone brand TECNO Mobile.

Simply present PHP500 in single or collected receipts and enter a whole new world filled with glitz and glamour.

The theatrical room isn’t the only technological experience the mall has. Equally spectacular is a choreographed light and sound display at SM Aura Premier’s Skypark at Level 5.

Visitors of the Skypark enter a space with tall tree-like sculptures made of strings of lights. As they go through a forest of lights, a jaw-dropping musical show will entrance and excite them.

Visitors can stop and enjoy the choreographed audio and visual performance at 7 p.m. on all Sunday nights of December, including Christmas Eve and December Day.
