Before the second episode of the Philippines Graphic Literary Workshop (PGLW) concluded on March 21, we knew that we had one more thing that we can offer our bright young fellows: a starting platform for their creative endeavors. Here, we present one of their final outputs from the workshop. We also asked them to provide an artwork that they think best represents their stories. Read on.
It’s always sunny in cartoons
save for the token rainy day episode.
Their sun is so yellow and lively,
they even have sunglasses sometimes.
It’s like the higher-ups never looked at the actual sun
because ours looks nothing like that
When I try to look up, it burned my eyes instead
and the sun had no sunglasses.
Nothing bad ever happens on their sunny days
Bad feelings were reserved for rain.
Because the sun is to show that they're happy
a rule for the cartoon self
Rain clouds loom over them and leave before the episode ends
but why do they barely have any clouds at all?
Unlike them, my clouds don’t appear
but I know they’re in the sky
Our sun continues to shine even though
it feels like there should be clouds overhead
I wish they left after the rainy day episode ends
and let me have my sunglasses days too.
I would pick up a sword, a magnifying glass, or a wrench
like my heroes, young detectives, and engineers on the TV
I would do it all
should I get the type of sunny day they do.
